How you can help Chinley Scout Group
There are stacks of ways that you can help us. Whether as a leader, on week day evening, at weekend events or as a Friend of Chinley Scouts, we can always make use of another pair of hands. If you have a boy in the group it also helps you to spend more time with him and his friends. Look below to see if anything grabs your interest!
Becoming a leader

It's very rewarding to lead Scouts, at whatever level. Chinley is located in a perfect location for outdoor pursuits and we try to reflect this in our programme. The Scout Association will train leaders if you are prepared to give the time. Qualifying as a Scout leader give confidence and ability to lead a particular section. The neckerchief if 1st Gilwell is the mark of a qualified Scout leader. See opposite for the 1st Gilwell neckerchief and the uniform shirt of a Scout leader.

We recognise the commitment that our leaders give to us. We do not think that they should be out of pocket as a result of their contribution to the Group and we provide leaders with their uniform to do the job.

Helping at week day meetings
Beavers and Cub Scouts welcome parents helping the leaders each week day. Beavers have a rota for parents to help so that your commitment is not EVERY week! It is tremendously helpful for leaders to be able to rely on parents to work with boys on one activity, every once in a while. Please talk to the section leaders about what you can do.
The legal position

The Scout Association takes the responsibility that we have to protect youngsters very seriously. Adult helpers who have regular contact with children are, by law, required to complete a form which is then submitted to the Criminal Records Bureau. Our leaders will be happy to explain the full position to you.

As an organisation, the Scout Association follows the 'Young People First' yellow card code of good practice for adults.
Executive Committee
Adults who want to give a commitment to the Group can help by working on the Executive Committee. The Committee meet once every two months. Contact any committee member for more information. Click here for their details.
Scout Fellowship
The Scout Fellowship is a support organisation for the uniformed sections comprising adults who want to be a member of the Scout Association but want to give a more flexible or different commitment. Click here for more information.
Friends of Chinley Scouts
We would really like to start an informal group of ex Chinley Scouts and their friends, families and supporters of the Group which could be a focus for social activities and help out when the Group needs extra hands. Let us know if you are interested in becoming a member. Click here to contact Martin Ellis, our Group Chairman.
Badge Examiners
We always need adult help with specific skills to give our boys tuition in specific subjects. You don't need to be skilled in any particular subject although, for Scouts, it helps. If you know about a sport, rock climbing, first aid, music, cooking, web design, IT, or any one of the dozens of other proficiency badges then please contact us.

Fund raising

Scouting isn't cheap! Each section collects weekly subscriptions which pays for the running of week day evenings. However, we always want to offer our boys more. Camping equipment, our headquarters, and the outdoor activity equipment that we use all needs maintaining. If you can help, whether it's organising the bag pack at the local supermarket or other activities please contact Pippa Matthews, our Treasurer. Click here for her contact details.

Also please look at our webpage about fund raising for more information.
