The Group

Chinley Scouting Group is a relatively small but thriving group in the beautiful High Peak district of Derbyshire.

Sited on the boundary of Whitehough village and Chinley village, and alongside Black Brook, we have our own grounds and building, formerly a chapel-of-ease, which is full of history and character.

With views up to the high ridges of the poetically named Chinley Churn and Cracken Edge in one direction, and Eccles Pike in the other, we are fortunate to have wonderful country side all around us and we make use of the many possibilities that gives for adventure.

Our district campsite is Gradbach Scout Camp, located on the western edge of the Peak District National Park, covering a total of 48 acres and nestled in the upper reaches of the Dane Valley, on the borders of Derbyshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire.  The campsite is located close to both Buxton and Leek, but because of the nature of the Peak District countryside it appears to be in a world of its own!

Here’s a photo showing the view from Gradbach when standing at Camp Fire Hollow.
